Welcome to our April WIE newsletter.  I take great pleasure in introducing Jyothi Ramaswamy, IEEE WIE Treasurer 2023, who is dedicating her time and talent for making WIE impactful. I am also excited to welcome Alicia Tomaszewski , Senior Program Manager, IEEE WIE.

A Recap of Important WIE Happenings

This February, I had the honor to attend the Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGA) meeting and present  an update on WIE activities to raise awareness of goals, potential roadblocks, and support needed from MGA  for 2023  at the IEEE MGA Directors Forum held during the 2023 IEEE Board Series in NY, USA. In early March, I was invited to attend IEEE R9 meeting and share WIE’s 2023 plans,  activities and benefits with global leaders and R9 delegates from Section, YP and WIE AGs in which I assured them that WIE can help overcome their challenges and move forward strongly.

IEEE WIE celebrated International Women’s Day with amazing initiatives. An Instagram LIVE with me as your WIE Chair was organized where I shared my take on diversity and inclusion, women empowerment, and what #EmbracingEquity means to me. IEEE WIE along with IEEE WICE, jointly organized a webinar to mark Women’s History Month. This pivotal discussion on “Voices Captured, Voices Lost: Using Oral History to Document Women in #IEEE and #STEM” is available for your viewing HERE.

IEEE WIE has prepared a video tutorial on how to write a good WIE award nomination. Find this insightful video HERE.

The 2023 WIE Awards submissions closed on 3/31 with a total of 114 applications– triple the number of 2022 applications.

To celebrate IEEE Education Week 2023, IEEE WIE conducted an interview session with Dr. Rabab K. Ward, VP, IEEE Educational Activity Board (EAB) which will be shared with our members very soon.

Future WIE Events

IEEE WIE is excited to announce 9 global locations for the2023 International Leadership Summits. Please join the events closest to you for professional advancement and networking with role models and peers.

IEEE WIE kick started a collaboration with IEEE Entrepreneurship Committee, IEEE YP, IEEE Power and energy Society (PES) Day – please stay engaged to increase the program value of WIE.

IEEE WIE Annual Meeting is scheduled for May 5 – 6, 2023 at the Hilton Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. This event is co-located with the IEEE VIC Summit and Honors Gala. Looking forward to a great hybrid (in-person and virtual) meeting after two years!
