This presentation discusses the increasing levels of RF ambient noise particularly in the VHF and UHF frequency bands. RF ambient noise is the result of a cacophony of signals from the vast electronic world we live in. The noise floor in many areas has increased by 30-40 dB. This is causing significant issues for commercial broadcasters, aviation radio, marine communications, land mobile radio, military, and other users of the spectrum between 30 and 500 MHz. Measurements and a discussion of the effects of this increasing noise floor will be presented.
