Dear IEEE WIE Community,

Happy Fall! October has been a month of collaboration, inspiration, and connection — a true reflection of what WIE stands for.
IEEE PowerAfrica 2025 in Cairo, Egypt (Sept 28–Oct 2) It was an honour to open the conference with my keynote, “Lighting the Way: Photonics, Leadership, and Powering a Brighter Future,” and to take part in Dr. Morgan Kiani’s panel, “The Impact of Leadership,” alongside Aida Elsabban, Irene Gabriel, and Hady Fayek.I had the privilege of joining IEEE PowerAfrica 2025 in Cairo, Egypt (28 September – 2 October) — my first visit to this incredible country! It was an honour to open the conference with my keynote, “Lighting the Way: Photonics, Leadership, and Powering a Brighter Future,” and to take part in Dr. Morgan Kiani’s panel, “The Impact of Leadership,” alongside Aida Elsabban, Irene Gabriel, and Hady Fayek.

Before the conference, I participated in Dr. Kiani’s IEEE IES Two-Day Solar Systems Workshop, learning from global experts and meeting many passionate students. I also truly enjoyed the IEEE WIE Luncheon on Sept 27, beautifully organized by Sherin Youssef and Eman Azab of the IEEE Egypt Section WIE Affinity Group — an inspiring celebration of women’s leadership in STEM. My heartfelt thanks to Ahmed H. Madian, Irene Gabriel, and Mohamed Saeed Darweesh for their warm hospitality and remarkable organization of PowerAfrica.

WIE’s global collaborations continue to grow. At Futurecom 2025 in São Paulo, Brazil, Moira Prates (IEEE South Brazil Section) and Region 9 volunteers proudly represented WIE. At SEMICON West (7-9 October, Phoenix), we shared WIE flyers and Manga Stories at the booth, and at GITEX (12015 October, Dubai), Larissa Abi Nakhle showcased WIE’s mission at one of the world’s largest tech gatherings.

Each of these moments reinforces our shared vision — empowering, connecting, and inspiring women engineers around the world. Let’s continue to inspire and support each other in our professional journeys!

Best regards,
Dr. Winnie Ye
