Talk Topics: Divide, Conquer, and Scale: Unlocking the Power of Cellular Architecture
Abstract: In today’s world of rapidly scaling distributed systems, achieving resilience, scalability, and fault isolation is crucial. Cellular architecture offers a groundbreaking approach by dividing large, complex systems into independent, self-contained cells. In a Cell-based distributed systems architecture a large application or service is divided into smaller, self-contained units called "cells." Each cell operates independently, serving a subset of the overall workload, and is designed to be autonomous and failure-tolerant.This approach ensures that the failure of one cell does not cascade to the entire system, enabling high availability and better resource utilization.
This session explores the core principles and real-world applications of cellular architecture, demonstrating how this design paradigm helps solve scaling challenges while improving system reliability and operational efficiency. Attendees will gain insights into how cellular architecture enables fault isolation, minimizes blast radius, and simplifies system maintenance. Through examples from large-scale cloud services, we’ll dive into best practices for designing and implementing cellular systems, strategies for managing inter-cell communication, and tips for overcoming common pitfalls. Whether you are scaling a cloud-based service or architecting next-generation distributed systems, this session will equip you with actionable strategies to "divide, conquer, and scale" your infrastructure for maximum performance and resilience.

Talk Topic: Avionics Instrumentation for Enhancement of Pilot's Situation Awareness
Abstract: Avionics is a combination of aviation and electronics. Avionics system or Avionics sub-system depends on electronics. Avionics instrumentation enables enable the flight crew to carry out the aircraft mission safely and efficiently. Avionic systems include communications, navigation, the display and management of multiple systems, and the hundreds of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) that are fitted in an aircraft to perform individual functions.
One of the primary flight display used in fighter aircrafts is Head-Up Display (HUD). HUD significantly enhances pilot’s situational awareness by overlaying critical flight information directly in the pilot's line of sight. HUD provide real-time environmental awareness while integrating critical information obtained from other avionics systems, like Flight Management System (FMS), horizon position, altitude, target
positioning etc. while ensuring comprehensive situational awareness enabling quick decision-making.
The benefits of HUDs in avionics include improved pilot focus, enhanced safety through immediate access to essential flight information, and increased situational awareness. By keeping vital data within the pilot's direct view, HUDs reduce the need for frequent head-down instrument checks, thereby minimizing the risk of human error. While designing a HUD, consideration of human factors is a key aspect,
therefore, emphasis is on a minimalist approach to avoid clutter, color of symbology, and optimal brightness and contrast for visibility in various lighting conditions.
While the design of HUD is a critical activity, qualification of HUD for airworthiness is a challenge in itself. The path of qualification and certification of any airborne equipment goes through various stringent environmental test conditions as outlined in the relevant Military standard guidelines. The talk will also focus on discussion of these various qualification and certification requirements applicable for airworthy
qualification of electronics equipment.

Talk Topic: Sustainable Electrification, Computational Electromagnetic, AI for electromobility applications
Abstract: The increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions has driven significant advancements in electric vehicle (EV) technology, particularly in the design of efficient propulsion systems. Among the key components of electric drivetrains, the traction motor plays a pivotal role in delivering the necessary torque and power for vehicle movement. Various types of electric machines are used in EVs, each with its own unique set of characteristics, benefits, and trade-offs, including size, weight, power, range, cost, and performance requirements [1]-[2]. Electric traction modules are the core propulsion systems in electric vehicles and electric two-wheelers, converting electrical energy from the battery into mechanical power to drive the vehicle. The efficient operation of the electric motor within these modules is crucial for maximizing energy efficiency, performance, and reliability, ultimately increasing the range of electromobility [1]-[2]. Among various motor types, Variable Flux Motors (VFMs) offer superior performance due to their ability to adjust magnetic flux dynamically, optimizing power delivery under different driving conditions [3]-[4]. However, optimizing the air gap flux control in VFMs for electric traction modules is challenging due to the varying torque, speed, and power demands across different driving cycles. The implementation of an effective flux control strategy that maximizes efficiency across a range of speeds and torques has remained elusive. In this talk, an innovative adaptive air gap flux control technique that leverages Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to enable real-time optimization of motor efficiency throughout a vehicle’s drive cycle. DRL is a subfield of AI machine learning technique that combines reinforcement learning (RL) and deep learning. Reinforcement learning, RL considers the problem of a computational agent learning to make decisions by trial and error. Deep RL incorporates deep learning into the solution, allowing agents to make decisions from unstructured input data without manual engineering of the state space. Deep RL algorithms are able to take in very large inputs and decide what actions to perform to optimize an objective.
DRL's ability to learn and adapt in dynamic, non-linear environments make it an ideal solution for optimizing VFMs, particularly in the complex and variable conditions of electromobility applications. This innovative machine learning approach ensures that the air gap flux is continuously and intelligently adjusted in real time, leading to significant improvements in energy efficiency, vehicle range, and overall system performance.

Talk Topic: Intra-industry heterogeneity of innovation through DIE
Abstract: In this study, we developed a taxonomy of innovative firms and examined the various modes of innovation. Sector-level analysis of intra-industry heterogeneity revealed that distinct innovation characteristics, resource positions, knowledge bases, and cooperation behaviors significantly influence firms’ innovative traits. We found that sectoral variables promoting variety generation increase heterogeneity, while larger average firm sizes or higher concentrations of group-affiliated firms reduce it. Consequently, sectors are populated by firms with unique innovative characteristics. Therefore, sectoral innovation policies should target specific groups rather than broad typologies. Additionally, fostering heterogeneity in innovative behavior can mitigate risks associated with path dependency and lock-in.
