IEEE WIE Ambassador Program

IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is proud to launch its inaugural Ambassador Program, bringing together a global group of volunteers who serve as visible champions for IEEE WIE. Ambassadors help expand awareness, strengthen engagement, and promote WIE programs across their professional networks, local communities, and online platforms. This program is designed for members who are passionate about advancing women in engineering and want to play an active role in amplifying WIE’s mission worldwide.

  • Expand Global Reach: Ambassadors will extend WIE’s presence into new regions and communities, both online and offline.
  • Strengthen Engagement: They’ll foster deeper connections through mentorship, events, and dialogue, building a more active and collaborative WIE network.
  • Inspire Future Engineers: By sharing stories, hosting initiatives, and serving as role models, Ambassadors will motivate the next generation to pursue STEM.
  • Amplify WIE’s Mission: They will champion WIE’s mission of inspiring its members worldwide, and facilitating their recruitment and retention in STEM fields.
  • Build Strategic Visibility:  Ambassadors will help position IEEE WIE as a global leader dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

IEEE WIE Ambassador Program Questions and Answers

The IEEE WIE Ambassador Program is engages WIE members to serve as advocates, community connectors, and leaders who embody its mission and values to create mutual and far-reaching impact:

  • Ambassadors gain meaningful leadership experience, broadening their global perspective and actualizing their passion.
  • WIE as a Global Network strengthens its presence, reaching new communities and fostering deeper engagement.
  • STEM fields benefit from increased awareness and enthusiasm, as Ambassadors promote the value and possibilities of engineering and technology.
  • Individuals around the world – especially those newly introduced to STEM – are inspired and empowered through the Ambassadors’ outreach and initiatives.

Ambassadors contribute across multiple levels, engaging in a wide range of activities that support the growth and visibility of IEEE WIE. Provided below is an overview of the types of initiatives and responsibilities they will take on.

Advocacy & Representation. Promote WIE initiatives, events, and opportunities across personal and professional networks, serving as a visible representative of WIE.
Mentorship & Support. Provide guidance to students and early-career professionals through flexible formats, such as email Q&A sessions, panels, or group discussions.
Event Leadership. Organize or support professional development activities, outreach events, and community‑building programs aligned with WIE’s mission.
Strategic Communication. Share WIE updates, success stories, and opportunities through social media, Collabratec™, and other communication channels.
Collaboration Across WIE. Collaborate with WIE committees and volunteers to support shared goals, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to strengthening global engagement.

Ambassadors report to the IEEE WIE Ambassador Program Subcommittee, which in turn reports to the IEEE WIE Global Committee.

The IEEE WIE Ambassador Program is designed for early-career professionals of any gender who are passionate about engineering and technology and eager to take on leadership roles within the global WIE community.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be an IEEE WIE Member at Member Grade or higher
  • Be in at least their third consecutive year of WIE membership at the time of application.

Based on the rubric, applicants for the IEEE WIE Ambassador Program are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Alignment with IEEE WIE Mission and Values: Demonstrates a strong understanding of and alignment with the mission and values of IEEE WIE.
  • Regional and Sectional Awareness: Demonstrates an understanding of the needs and opportunities within their IEEE Region or Section.
  • Motivation: Articulates a compelling and thoughtful reason for wanting to become an Ambassador.
  • Planning and Initiative: Presents a realistic, impactful, and well-structured plan for their Ambassador year.
  • Leadership Potential: Demonstrates readiness for the role through past leadership experiences or roles.
  • Communication Skills: Communicates clearly, effectively, and professionally throughout the application.
  • Creativity and Initiative: Shows originality and proactive thinking in community engagement and event planning.
  • Professional Online Presence: Maintains a social media presence that supports the goals and outreach needs of the program.

This is a one-year term, requiring an estimated 4-6 hours per month. Reappointment in future years may be considered.
