Panel Discussion: Revolutionizing Healthcare with AI
December 11, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Are you considering a career in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare? This event will be a panel discussion with three successful AI scientists who graduated from the Pittsburgh region. AI itself has great potential for the benefit of humanity. While AI is not a panacea for healthcare problems, utilizing patient and consumer data could lead to a precision model approach, which can help with the diagnosis and prognosis of the disease. We will discuss current innovations that our speakers are a part of as well as discussing the strengths and limitations of AI in healthcare. We will also discuss the future potential of AI and the knowledge gap between academia and industry. Further, we will discuss how Tech companies are promoting diversity and inclusion to improve AI as a field. Arielle Fisher, PhD Director of Product, Genospace Arielle is passionate about developing innovative technology to provide real-time decision support to healthcare providers. As the Director of Product at Genospace, a subsidiary of Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and HCA Healthcare, Arielle has had the unique experience of building a precision medicine platform to provide highly specific therapeutic options. Her latest work includes overseeing a COVID-19 registry with over 150,000 inpatients for use in a research consortium established by HCA Healthcare and 11 academic institutions. Prior to starting at Genospace, she received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and her B.A. in Molecular Biology from Bucknell University. Michael Ding, PhD Data Scientist, LifeMine Therapeutics Michael is excited about the transformative potential of data science in healthcare. His latest work focuses on bringing AI and machine learning to empower drug discovery from eukaryotic microbes. Prior to joining LifeMine, Michael co-founded a company to develop machine learning solutions for precision medicine. Michael holds an A.B. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Gaurav Trivedi, PhD Advanced Innovation, Philips Healthcare Gaurav works with Advanced Innovation at Philips Healthcare. He has a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence with applications in healthcare. He works on solving problems and challenges during the design and development of intelligent HealthTech. Gaurav serves on the jury of WomenWhoTech, a program that awards grants for women-led startups on a rolling basis. He is also the founder of the meditation club at the University of Pittsburgh where he continues to serve as an independent advisor. Co-sponsored by: Engineering in Medicine and Biology Agenda: This is a 1.5-hour panel Zoom event, where the chair and vice-chair of Pittsburgh’s Women in Engineering affinity group (Pritika Dasgupta, PhD and Sruthi Sivakumar) ask questions to the panel speakers. We will take questions from the audience during the last 10-15 minutes. Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/289595
