Rrising tide lifts all boats offers the theme to leadership lessons for women in advancing technical fields by Dr. Kathleen Kramer. Offering her story and perspectives, she connects the technical aspects of her work and personal experiences with to her goal of leadership through (technical) empowerment. This connection works to enable and inspire greater advancement and advocacy for Women (and others) in Engineering and Computing. She will also applies some critical feedback to common beliefs about women in tech that often relied upon by both women and their colleagues, offering some replacement navigation signs to the old standards, and will welcome live audience questions. Dr. Kathleen A. Kramer is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego, San Diego, CA, USA. Her technical interests are in multisensor data fusion and applications of neural and fuzzy systems to navigation and data security. She is a Distinguished Lecturer for IEEE Aerospace & Electronics Systems Society (AESS) and chairs its technical panel on Cyber Security. She also serves as that society’s liaison to the IEEE Women in Engineering Committee and is an active leader-volunteer advancing related goals. She has worked as a Member of Technical Staff doing research at several companies including ViaSat, Hewlett Packard, and Bell Communications Research. She received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering magna cum laude with a second major in physics from Loyola Marymount University, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. She is a global leader in IEEE, a 400,000-member organization, advancing technology for humanity. She is internationally known as a leader in accreditation and is a Fellow of ABET.
