Nita Patel P.E, IEEE WIE Senior Member
Profession: Systems and Software Engineering Director, L-3 Warrior Systems

How did you first get involved in IEEE Women in Engineering?

Nita: I joined as an undergraduate and got very involved when I was appointed IEEE WIE Region 5 Coordinator in 2006.

Why did you decide to become an IEEE WIE member?

Nita: To be part of a community and to make a difference.

What do you wish other people knew about IEEE WIE?

Nita: The incredible breadth and diversity of not only IEEE WIE membership (e.g., students, professionals, industry, academia, government, American, Asian, male, female) but also IEEE WIE activities (e.g., outreach, humanitarian activities, code camps, technical seminars, conferences, summits, awards, travels grants).

What is it like to be an IEEE WIE Volunteer, and what do you enjoy about it?
Being a volunteer is incredibly rewarding. You get to work with incredible people with a shared mission, learn new skills and contribute your talents towards a greater purpose..

Why do you feel it is important for women to enter into the field of engineering?

Nita: The world runs on technology and there are not enough engineers. The world needs the talents, passions, creativity and ingenuity of everyone, especially a majority of the population (i.e., women).
