As a member of Women in Engineering (WIE), I believe that empowering others, especially women in STEM, creates a ripple effect that transforms not just individual lives but entire communities. During my time as president of WIE Panamá (2019-2020), I witnessed firsthand how collaboration can break down barriers and open doors of opportunity. One of our most impactful initiatives was the STAR program, which, with over $50,000 in funding from the U.S. Embassy and SENACYT, reached more than 500 students across Panama. These efforts resulted in the publication of two books, the mobilization of 2,500 hours of volunteer work, and partnerships with over 25 companies and organizations.
I am a firm believer that each of us holds the power to create meaningful change. By fostering curiosity, embracing challenges, and lifting each other up, we can continue to expand what’s possible in STEM and beyond.
For our collective efforts, WIE Panamá was honored with the “Affinity Group of the Year Award,” and I was personally recognized with an honorable mention as an “Inspiring Member of the Year” in 2022. Additionally, I had the privilege of receiving the EAB Meritorious Achievement Award in Pre-University Education in Vancouver in 2022.
