WIE NUST (College of National University of Sciences and Technologies) PNEC (Pakistan Navy Engineering College) Conducts “Imagine, Illustrate, Inspire – Adobe Illustrator Webinar”

IEEE-WIE NUST PNEC Chapter is always looking for new ways to empower students and help equip them with holistic skills that help them to broaden their skillset and learn to better navigate the harsh world of engineering. With this aim, the Chapter held a webinar on the topic of “Adobe Illustrator” on July 18^th and 19^th. Keeping in mind that Adobe Illustrator is an important tool in graphic designing, we invited Anas Inam, who has been working as a graphic designer for various societies and teams in NUST PNEC for last 3 years.

The webinar was conducted on Zoom, with over 200 registrants and went without a hitch as our Team had created a group on WhatsApp Messenger and provided all details from downloading to installation of the software ensuring the participants could easily use the software and approach us easily for any complaints. The registrants were from all over Pakistan from prestigious institutes like IBA to Government Colleges like the Federal Urdu University as well as students from all over Pakistan. With 60% of those attending the webinar being women, our chapter successfully achieved its task of empowering women in this event.

Anas Inam, the host, taught various useful tools from simple tools such as the Pencil tool to complex tasks such as Layering and Shadowing. The design of the event poster (See Below) was taught to the spectators and many of them were wholly satisfied by the technique of instruction and had queries about our next event. Two girls who used the skills they learned sent us the posters they made (See below), thus acknowledging our efforts. The Webinar was also recorded and the videos were put on YouTube for the benefit of others.  The event ended with those attending both Days of the Webinar being granted certificates (See below) by our Chapter. All in all, it was a highly successful event, especially, it being the first Webinar being conducted in the Chapter’s history.

Outreach Program for Pre-University Students

On 21 and 22 August 2020, IEEE BUP Student Branch WIE Affinity Group organized its very first outreach program <Beyond HelloWorld!>, a collective of engineering workshops for pre-university students. The program was actualized in collaboration with three renowned and remarkable colleges of Bangladesh.

The sole purpose of this event was to guide pre-university students into choosing Engineering as their future field of study and career prospects. Consequently, two back-to-back workshops were held on the basic topics of ICT. 146 students from more than 8 institutions registered to join the workshops.

The workshops were conducted by two professionals in their respective fields. The first workshop’s speaker: Faisal Feroze (Implementation Coordinator at Cokreates Ltd) discussed the basics of HTML and Web Designing. The second workshop overviewed the C programming language which was conducted by Fayek Mubarrat (Programmer at Southtech Group).

Both sessions were extremely lively with participants asking queries on various matters. The speakers patiently answered all the queries and encouraged them to learn more about the topics by providing necessary resources. Almost 104 participants were actively present in each of these workshops. Afterwards, all the participants received an e-certificate from the Affinity.
