IEEE Kerala Section- Outreach Program
An outreach program on social media marketing for self-employed women was conducted by IEEE WIE AG RIT on 8 March 2020 as part of International Women’s Day Celebrations. The event was held at Archana Women’s Centre, Ettumanoor, Kottayam, Kerala, an institution focusing on women empowerment by hosting training sessions to make its candidates self-sufficient. The sessions mainly tried to give an idea on social media marketing of the products developed by the participants and how they could possibly expand their market through tailor-made Facebook pages, Instagram pages, etc. The knowledge of the participants regarding the use of social media was evaluated at the beginning of the event, after dividing them into groups. The session ended with all the participants creating social media marketing pages for their products and being confident enough to take their business to a new level using their newly gained knowledge.
IEEE Kerala Section: Opportunity Hackathon
In the past few years, humans have come so far, as far as technology and more, yet there exists a gender gap when it comes to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) occupations. Fewer girls choose to study STEM courses in schools and universities. Many philanthropic organizations are willing to uplift and empower women and enhance their development process in various ways. A great deal of them provide scholarships especially for those aspiring careers in STEM. But then again, only a few apply for these scholarships for two reasons; 1) Incognizance 2) Considering themselves as ineligible.Taking this fact into account, WIE AG of IEEE SB RIT conducted an ‘Opportunity Hackathon’ for creating scholarship awareness among girls for clearing all the woes regarding these scholarships.
