Course Description:
This course provides an in-depth understanding of power system studies for inverter-based resources (IBR) using Phasor and Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) domain analyses. Students will explore the basics of Phasor and EMT studies, focusing on the principles, methodologies, and applications within the PSCAD software environment. The course aims to equip participants with the foundational knowledge necessary to conduct effective power system studies.
Course Outline:
1. Introduction to Power System Studies for IBR
– Overview of IBR and their role in power systems
– Key differences between Phasor and EMT domain analyses
2. Fundamentals of Phasor Domain Studies
– Basic concepts and principles
– Common applications and case studies
3. Fundamentals of EMT Studies
– Introduction to EMT theory
– When do we need to do EMT studies
– Applications and importance in power systems
4. Introduction to PSCAD Software
– PSCAD environment setup
– Case setup and execution
– Plotting and interpreting results
– Automation in PSCAD
Learning Outcomes:
– Understand the principles of Phasor and EMT domain analyses.
