Presenter: Dr. Tia Warrick, DHSc, MPH, CCRA, ACRP-PM, Public Health Director and Assistant Professor of Biology, Juniata College | CEO and Clinical Research Strategist, Lesous Consulting LLC
Abstract: Clinical research increasingly requires professionals who can integrate epidemiology, biostatistics, technology, and operational decision-making rather than treating these areas as separate disciplines. This webinar introduces undergraduate and graduate students to the technical reasoning behind modern clinical study design and execution.
Participants will follow the progression of a research question from initial study concept through population definition, endpoint selection, data collection, statistical analysis, and interpretation. The session will examine how epidemiologic principles and biostatistical methods inform study design, how poor assumptions can affect feasibility and data quality, and where artificial intelligence and automation can support research workflows without replacing scientific judgment.
Using practical examples from clinical research, participants will explore common sources of bias, confounding, missing data, protocol complexity, and operational risk. The session will also demonstrate how researchers can translate data into decisions while maintaining scientific rigor, participant protection, and meaningful clinical interpretation.
Students will leave with a clearer understanding of how quantitative methods, technology, and clinical research operations intersect and how these skills can be applied across careers in research, biotechnology, healthcare, public health, and data science.
Bio: Dr. Tia Warrick, DHSc, MPH, CCRA, ACRP-PM, is a public health scientist, epidemiologist, biostatistician, educator, and clinical research leader whose work bridges quantitative research methods with real-world clinical trial execution. She serves as Public Health Director and Assistant Professor of Biology at Juniata College, where she leads graduate public health education and mentors students in epidemiology, clinical research, environmental health, and biomedical research. She is also CEO of Lesous Consulting LLC, where she works at the intersection of clinical research strategy, technology, and workforce development. Her research includes Alzheimer’s disease, environmental exposures, biomarkers, longitudinal data analysis, and clinical research methodology. Dr. Warrick is an active scientific reviewer, author, conference speaker, and educator committed to preparing emerging STEM professionals to translate data into rigorous and practical research decisions.
