Blockchain technology is rapidly moving beyond its origins in cryptocurrency and has the potential to transform practices across major industry sectors. This presentation provides an introduction to blockchain and its unique capabilities for decentralization, transparency, security and automation. We examine how blockchain-based applications are emerging across financial services for improved payments, regulatory compliance, and trading. Supply chain management is leveraging blockchains for transparent end-to-end tracking of products. In healthcare, blockchains enable securing medical records and streamlining clinical trials. Applications in government, retail, energy, real estate, media, and identity management are also highlighted. The presentation covers the technical foundations of blockchain such as distributed consensus models, smart contracts, and cryptography. Current and future use cases across industries are analyzed to demonstrate the expansive possibilities for blockchains to disrupt legacy processes and systems.
