IEEE WIE Distinguished Volunteer and Mentor series highlights a dedicated WIE volunteer who is well known for his/her notable contribution to IEEE WIE.

In this issue, we feature Wafa Ben Hmida.

IEEE WIE: How has your experience with IEEE WIE shaped your career and personal growth?

Hmida: “Being part of IEEE WIE added a great value to my career as a software engineer, being inspired with so many IEEE speakers in different events and being more confident in my work specially after maternity leave also I had the chance to experience being the WIE R8 WIE Chair I have learned how to be a great leader and that influenced my career with understanding I’m fitting well with this position and I moved from Software Engineer role to product manager.”

IEEE WIE: What innovative projects or initiatives are you currently working on that you believe will make a significant impact?

Hmida: “Since last year started working on finding a way to enhance the mentorship program in R8 WIE, and I think this will make a significant impact on the women in engineering if we target the common challenges we usually face in our work and life.”

IEEE WIE: Can you share a moment when you overcame a significant challenge in your professional journey and what you learned from it?

Hmida: “After being in maternity leave being back to work I didn’t know what is expecting from me or how to have life balance between work and family, but meeting few inspiring women in IEEE WIE I learned how to be again confident and how to balance and prove myself again at my work.”

IEEE WIE: How do you stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in your field?

Hmida: “LinkedIn and researches.”

IEEE WIE: What role do you think mentorship plays in the success of young professionals, and how do you approach mentoring others?

Hmida: “Promotion is the best key to approach mentoring others as example in events F2f mentoring.”
