Meet Cinzia Da Via, IEEE WIE Member
Profession: Professor of Physics
How did you first get involved in IEEE Women in Engineering?
It was during a reception at the flagship conference of IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) society. I was asked to be a part of a panel to discuss issues women face in the profession and shortly after I was asked to organise the same event back in 2016. I have been doing it ever since and became the society liaison the year after.
Why did you decide to become a WIE member?
I became a member because I found that WIE was offering opportunities to meet, discuss and network with other women in various fields of science, engineering, and mathematics around the world.
What do you wish other people knew about IEEE WIE?
That the experience of meeting and working together with women in the same profession living in other counties with different cultural and societal backgrounds is one of the most enriching experiences one can have
What is it like to be an IEEE WIE Volunteer, and what do you enjoy about it?
Being an IEEE WIE Volunteer is an opportunity to propose ideas and work with other women in different ways for the advancement of common goals. It is also a way to prepare the future for the next generations of women.
Why do you feel it is important for women to enter into the field of engineering?
It is FUN!
