A MESSAGE FROM BOZENNA PASIK-DUNCAN, IEEE WIE CHAIR 2017

Dear IEEE WIE Members and IEEE WIE Staff,

We had the most productive and enjoyable in-person meeting on April 8-9, in Warsaw, Poland. I would like to take the opportunity to thank each participant of the meeting for her/his contributions. For the first time IEEE WIE was engaged in the local community service. We invited IEEE Poland Section representatives of the IEEE ,IEEE WIE, YP and Students.

They came from different parts of the country to share with us their programs and specific activities. That three hour interactive session was tremendously highly recognized by Polish IEEE Poland Section members and IEEE WIE members. Our agenda also included discussion and presentations from all participating IEEE WIE Committee members of different regions, sections, subcommittees and liaisons to technical societies and TAB and YP committees. You will receive the detailed minutes of the meeting along with motions and recommendations.

I had observed that the IEEE WIE has so much to offer, share and discuss about fantastic sustainable models for the broad spectrum of our activities in 2017,  that the two day meeting was simply too short. I will consider strongly having another in-person meeting in the Fall and will recommend having a 3 day in person meeting in 2018. I am very proud of the IEEE WIE, and I am most impressed by our goals and plans expressed by our subcommittees. Please consider joining our subcommittees to make their activities very dynamic, engaging, advancing and sustainable. We will focus on bringing visibility to women across all technical societies, sections, chapters, affinity groups, and regions.

We have started an important collaboration with YP and we are preparing to bring visibility to IEEE WIE at the upcoming Section Congress in August in Australia. We plan to have a IEEE WIE meeting there,  as well as sessions focused on IEEE WIE. We will have an exciting and most productive collaboration with the newly formed TAB Committee on Diversity that includes Women in Engineering. We finished our meeting being inspired by each other and working together to make a change. Our in person meeting was most successful and most memorable. I am thrilled and passionate to work with you. Thank you for ALL you do for IEEE WIE. With gratitude and best wishes to each and everyone.
