Fall Update From Bozenna Pasik-Duncan, IEEE WIE Chair
Summer is already gone, and I will soon complete 10 months as Global Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering. I hope that your summer and early fall have been most productive, relaxed and most enjoyable. I have become the world traveler and I love it. I have met so many IEEE WIE members in many places around the world.
The most memorable events which I have attended in the last two months were our IEEE WIE International Leadership Summits, held at the beginning of September in Krakow, Poland,
and at the end of September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Although very different in many aspects, both of them were fantastic! I cannot find even Polish words to express my gratitude to the organizers for their amazing hospitality, creativity, thoughtfulness, and incredible hard work and responsibility for making the summits most successful and memorable. It has been a true learning experience for me. If I would have to point out just two activities out of many during the entire summit I would say that meetings and conversations focused on IEEE and IEEE WIE with top dignitaries of AGH University of Science and Technology in their spectacular historical office was a privilege, an honor and true inspiration. We discussed opportunities for our international collaboration.
During the Kuala Lumpur IEEE WIE International Leadership Summit, we had a privilege and honor to meet and listen to top dignitaries from National Education Departments and local universities. Those speakers were most inspirational. I took many pictures of slides from their talks. The organizers were most creative in offering fun activities.
The IEEE WIE International Leadership Summit in Poland offered a fun and engaging dance workshop, and the Malaysia Summit offered most useful dress code workshop!
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the organizers and all volunteers who were mostly students for their remarkable contribution and hard work. If I were to attend the IEEE WIE International Leadership Summits as a non-member of IEEE WIE, those summits would definitely
encourage me to join an awesome IEEE WIE group of most talented and amazing members.
Congratulations to the organizers of all 2017 Leadership Summits and to Francesca Mingione(IEEE Conferences & Events Portfolio Manager) for providing her invaluable assistance! The call for the next year’s leadership summits is on the way. Don’t miss this great opportunity to engage your local community in promoting member benefits of IEEE WIE based on inspiring, recognizing, and advancing women in science and engineering.
I have also attended some very impressive workshops and plan to attend more of them in the near future, organized by our IEEE WIE members. I plan to attend the 2017 World Science Forum in Jordan next month where IEEE WIE will get fantastic visibility by being represented at the IEEE Workshop on “Inspiring the Future – Role of Women Engineers.” You can read my reports from these workshops in the next issue of our Newsletter.
Thank you All for ALL you do for IEEE WIE!
With my very best wishes to each and everyone,
Bozenna
