IEEE Ukraine Section Women in Engineering Affinity Group co-sponsored the 2017 IEEE International Young Scientists Forum on Applied Physics and Engineering, which was held on October 17-20, 2017 in one of the most beautiful cities of Ukraine, in magnificent Lviv. The event was hosted by the Scientific Library of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
The event gathered together 150 young scientists, engineers, and invited speakers (including more than 40 IEEE members). The geography of participants was rather wide – attendees came from 29 cities of 10 countries including USA, UK, Spain, Poland, Estonia, Turkey, Italy, Hungary, Egypt, and Ukraine. The technical program included presentations on a broad range of topics including Biological and Medical Physics; Optics and Photonics; Computational and Experimental Electromagnetics; Microwave and Teraherts Electronics; Nano- and Metamaterials; Information Systems and Nondestructive Testing; Power Electronics and Industry Applications; Solid State Physics; Nuclear and Plasma Physics; Multiwavelength Astronomy; Geoscience and Remote Sensing. IEEE London IEEE WIE Annual Reception: Key Competencies for Innovative Leaders!
On the behalf of IEEE London IEEE WIE, I would like to thank IEEE WIE for approving our fund request and for their support. On Nov. 14, 2017, WE70007 – IEEE London Section IEEE WIE Affinity Group hosted its Annual Reception: “Key Competencies for Innovative Leaders!” with Member of Parliament of Canada, Kate Young, who had been an elected representative in the riding of London West in House of Commons of Canada in the Canadian federal election 2015. Kate shared with us her career journey, her support for STEM, and advice for becoming a successful leader. The event was hosted at 6:30 PM in SEB 3102, Spencer Engineering Building, Western University. Our group invited everyone to join the IEEE London IEEE WIE annual reception. Therefore, our attendees were distributed between women and men engineers/scientists. We had 32 people: ~20 attendees were women engineers/scientists, which is a great number compared to our small section.
